Spring Home Tour
Join us for a tour of "Gentleman's Farms"
The Visiting Nurses Foundation invites the public to join them for their 8th Annual Spring Home Tour as they explore five “Gentleman's Farms”. The tour will be held on Saturday June 20, 2009 and last from 10 am to 4 pm.
For those who wish to experience our Lewis County roots, you will enjoy the variety of cattle, tree and agricultural farms on this year’s tour. Start with the Newaukum Valley Ranch which is a working cattle ranch whose owners support our local farmers and 4-H projects. Have milk and cookies with the Dairy Ambassador of Lewis County while enjoying county music.
Delight in a Tree Farm with spectacular territorial views and a huge barn in which the second story is converted into the owner’s home. Visitors will also enjoy blue grass music and a tour of the owner’s personal sawmill, as well as a ride on a draft horse driven carriage.
Next to the Curtis store is a home that has been wonderfully restored after the 2007 flood. This farmer hosts an amazing agricultural organic farm and has just finished renovating their barn which is on the national historic registry. You will be able to sample his wonderful produce that is available to be delivered to your home once a week.
Visitors will also stroll through a country manor that has been extensively updated on the exterior and is owned by a gentleman who is an artist in concrete curbing.
End the tour at Chehalis’s Historic 1907 Martha and John Black home. This home features three stories with a bay shaped staircase with 28 steps. Sorry, but these homes are not handicapped accessible. Wear shoes that are easy to slip off and on, or easy to put surgical booties over.
Each year, over 400 people attend the Visiting Nurses Foundation Spring Home Tour. Walt King, President of the Foundation notes, “While those who are attending are finding inspiration and enjoyment from touring the farms, by the purchase of their tickets, they are also helping home health and hospice patients – some of the most vulnerable people in our community. We hope they will join us again this year.” Because this is a fundraising event, all ticket sales are final.
Proceeds will fund home health, respite & hospice patient needs. Presale tickets are just $15.00 or $18.00 if purchased the day of the event. They are available at the Visiting Nurses Thrift Shop, Hubbub in Centralia, all branches of Security State Bank, Book ‘n’ Brush, Mary McCranks in Chehalis and at any of the tour homes the day of the event.
